Topic: Supporting Supply Chain Infrastructure: Emergency Response for Repairs
Our nation's economy depends on the transportation of goods and services over its roads, bridges, highways, and tunnels. Without proper maintenance costly disruptions can occur impacting every facet of a supply chain and the customer. Maintenance disbursements for roads and bridges in the USA totaled $28.06 billion in 2022, comprising about 17.4% of total disbursements. The State Departments of Transportation (DOT) are at the center of keeping our supply chain infrastructure running smoothly.
But what happens when emergency repair materials are needed? "Who Do You Call?" - Why Aero Aggregates of North America!
Twenty-Five DOT's and 3 Port Authorities have done this approving his material that was used in the June 2023 I-95 Bridge Collapse. Crews were able to reopen the highway in just 12 days with a temporary roadway with six lanes atop a bed of a lightweight rock-like glass aggregate made by Aero Aggregates Ingenuity and prompt repairs saved tens of millions of dollars. The NTSB just released it’s final report on April 3, 2025.
Take Aways:
-The role that Engineering plays in the supply chain as to providing options for creativity and development.
-How did Aero Aggregates utilize its supply chain end to end from purchasing, inbound transportation, warehousing, inventory control, manufacturing, outbound transportation, customer service, and sustainability to support the emergency road repairs for I-95 that collapsed on June 11, 2023.
-Analyze current projects with State DOT's to demonstrate collaboration on how to get the "job done right" including the Teton Bypass failure just outside of Jackson Hole, WY.
“By investing in our infrastructure, we’re making our economy more efficient, we’re making it stronger (and) we’re making ourselves globally more competitive.” (Darren Olson, American Society of Civil Engineers, 3/25/25)
